Description
This rare and factory-original Colt Single Action Army “Engraving Sampler” is a tribute to the artistry of Colt’s master engravers across generations. Manufactured in 1985, this 3rd Generation model is chambered in .45 Colt with a 4.75" barrel and the iconic black powder-style frame—featuring the angled cylinder retaining screw that predates the transverse latch.
The revolver is tastefully engraved in segments representing the distinctive styles of Cuno Helfricht (frame), Louis D. Nimschke (cylinder), Richard Henshaw (trigger guard & butt), and contemporary factory engravers (barrel). The backstrap is marked “Colt Engraving Sampler,” making it one of the most unique production pieces from Colt’s Custom Shop during this era.
Finished with a vibrant case-hardened frame, high-polish blued barrel, cylinder, and grip frame, this showpiece is further enhanced by a one-piece ivory grip inlaid with antique gold Colt medallions. The revolver appears unturned and unfired, retaining its original box, paperwork, and factory packaging. An exceptional collector-grade piece that bridges Colt history with fine craftsmanship.
